Our International Network

EARMA

EARMA represents the community of Research Managers and Administrators within Europe. Its members work at the forefront of building the European Research Area while the Association forms the interface between research funding organisations and the scientific community, bridging cultural and legal differences between countries, and between academia and industry, contributing to policy consultations, and managing the smooth running of research projects.

INORMS

The International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) brings together research management societies and associations from across the globe. Its purpose is to enable interactions, share good practice, and coordinate activities between the member societies. INORMS was formed in 2001 to bring together research management societies and associations from across the globe.
The chair of ARMA-NL is part of the INORMS council. One of the other ARMA-NL board members is part of the INORMS working group.

Research Impact and Stakeholder Engagement (RISE) Working Group

The INORMS RISE Working Group has developed criteria to help research management associations (RMA) and RMA members assess people and organizations providing products and services to support research impact defined as the provable effects of research in the real world. They also created a toolkit for knowledge and research impact. Link of the toolkit.

Research Administration as a Profession (RAAAP) Taskforce

Research Administration as a Profession (RAAAP) is an international survey which seeks to identify the key skills, attitudes and behaviours of successful research management and administration (RMA) leaders. The aim of the RAAAP Taskforce is to continue the work of the initial RAAAP survey, by surveying Research Managers and Administrators every two years (or thereabouts), to collect and analyse longitudinal data about the profession. The Taskforce is also responsible for revising the initial survey and editing future iterations of the survey, as required. RAAAP-3 was done in the beginning of 2022. Dr Edwin Kanters is the ARMA-NL contact person for the INORMS Research Impact and Stakeholder Engagement (RAAAP) Working Group.

INORMS Sister Association Reciprocal Benefit Strategy (ISARBS)

ISARBS is a new initiative that allows participating members of the INORMS community of research management associations to benefit from discounted rates on certain events, publications and other products offered by other associations in the INORMS community. The most recent list of participating associations can be found at the website of INORMS. ISARBS is only open to members of research management associations affiliated to INORMS participating in the ISARBS Strategy. To avoid unintended competition between INORMS member associations, agreed geographical restrictions have been put in place, with the result that some INORMS associations are unable to offer ISARBS discounts in some countries.

More about ISARBS

Based on an original idea from SRAi, ISARBS arose from a discussion at the INORMS Council to explore how best practise in Research Management and Administration (RMA) could be shared in an affordable manner across the world by our respective memberships. An underpinning principle of ISARBS is that members of participating INORMS associations pay the same rates as those paid by the vending association’s own members.
